Joined September 1916, following year
western front in action on Somme at Arras, Merville, and Armentières.
Taken prisoner at Sailly le Sec in April 1918 during German offensive, and
worked in a stone quarry in the Harz Mountains during his captivity. Released
and demobilized March 1919 holding General Service and Victory medals. 17,
Brindley Street, Paddington W.2.
J.Moakes: Rifleman,
Rifle Brigade.
Joined May 1917, drafted to France same
year. Wounded after heavy fighting at Arras and Cambrai. Evacuated back to
England. Returned to western front, triumphal entry into Mons on Armistice
Day. Demobbed 1920, General Service and Victory medals. C7781.
