bullet  General Notes:

Scottish.
Legend has it that Miss Peyton gave shelter to Lieut. Hamilton at the time the Stuart armies were in flight. Who this romantic lady was is uncertain, but if she were Catherine Peyton, only daughter of Humphrey Peyton of Boyle, Co. Roscommon, then the Peyton family came originally from Bury St. Edmunds. (See Peyton tree)
This genealogical table is in tribute to that family of Irishmen who left their impoverished farmland to seek fortune and who, by their courage, hard work and thrift, helped to make possible the happiness that is ours today.
The name Hamilton is derived from the Irish amhail meaning "like" and thonn a "wave", implying that the original ancestor was as impetuous in battle as the billows are at sea.
