Called Wacky because he used to stand in the middle of the road, grinning, reading a newspaper (or pretending to) and watching to see out of the corner of his eye whether a policeman was coming to move him on. He thought it great fun to hold up the traffic such as it was in those days!

William married Ellen Jane MAY, daughter of Samuel MAY and Esther SAWYER, on 20 Jul 1874 in Kensington, London. (Ellen Jane MAY was born about 1840 in Ogbourne St Andrew, Wiltshire, died on 1 Aug 1915 in Kensington, London and was buried in Kensal Green Cemetery, London.)
